Front and rear door lock control module—upper cover. Due to the competitor’s inability to meet Tesla’s stringent quality requirements, its product has consistently suffered from deformation issues that have yet to be fully resolved, resulting in ongoing special procurement and failure to obtain Tesla’s PPAP approval. Our company collaborated with this U.S. customer by leveraging advanced mold engineering design and machining, coupled with state-of-the-art injection molding technology, to deliver high-quality products that perfectly conform to Tesla’s drawing specifications. The dimensional accuracy exceeds the customer’s requirements, enabling seamless approval for volume production on the first attempt and helping the customer gain a competitive edge in this market segment.

HeYao Technology, a leading player in the automotive components industry, is honored to have commenced discussions on this challenging mold project in 2019. Both sets of interlocking door-lock housings are manufactured using 2+2 cavity molds.

 

The primary challenge in designing this lock housing lies in controlling deformation and shrinkage, as the housing is made from POM—a material with high shrinkage that is highly sensitive to variations in the molding process. Our company employs advanced pre-deformation simulation and analysis to precisely quantify deformation under various conditions and translate these findings into compensatory process parameters, which are then incorporated into mold design. This enables precise control of anisotropic shrinkage across all dimensions of the mold. Combined with meticulous machining and scientifically optimized injection molding, we conduct extensive parameter optimization during the T0 development phase. Subsequently, optical scanning and CMM measurements are used to identify the optimal injection-molding parameters, which serve as the benchmark for precision mold adjustments. Each subsequent trial mold is run using these stabilized processing parameters, and after three trials, the final part achieves full dimensional compliance while meeting the critical dimension requirements with a CPK value of at least 1.67.
